NEVADA CITY, Calif. September 13, 2017 – On Tuesday afternoon, between noon and 5:30 pm, 212 lightning strikes were recorded on the Tahoe National Forest. 212 strikes within the Tahoe – 63 for American River Ranger District, 35 for Truckee Ranger District, 37 for Sierraville Ranger District, and 77 for Yuba River Ranger District.

Yesterday, two lightning fires were reported in the Washington area.

The Potter Fire and another fire do not represent a danger to the town at this time. Firefighters are on scene and the fires were monitored overnight.

Additional lightning-caused fires are expected to be discovered today via reconnaissance flights and direct observation. If you see thick smoke or flames, call 911.
