NEVADA CITY, Calif. August 4, 2017 – Between 2:30 and 8:00 pm yesterday, the higher elevations of the Tahoe National Forest received lightning strikes, mostly accompanied by precipitation.

The Truckee and Sierraville Ranger Districts received the most strikes, with 29 for Truckee and 20 for Sierraville. The Yuba River Ranger District had 3 recorded downstrikes and one strike made it onto the American River Ranger District.

Aerial reconnaissance flights are taking place and lookout towers are in service, keeping an eye out for any possible new starts. Weekend temperatures will moderate slightly, but thunderstorms will continue into next week thanks to monsoonal moisture pushing northwards.
