September 30, 2020 – In 2020, we have seen an unprecedented number of visitors throughout the river corridor that has created major risks to public safety and impacts of ecological damage to the watershed that include escaped campfires, overflowing trash, illegal parking, illegal dispersed camping, and calls for emergency services. On August 17th the community’s worst nightmare became a reality when the Jones Fire broke out within the river canyon that ultimately burned 705 acres, destroyed 21 structures, and threatened thousands of homes and the cities of Nevada City and City of Grass Valley highlighting the urgency of public safety. The topics include but are not limited to water safety, increased visitation due to COVID-19, parking, trash, Jones Fire impacts, wildfire prevention and more. Following the introduction, a Q & A will ensue with representatives from across the Cohort to answer questions.
