Grass Valley, CA In recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month, an urgent and unflinching new documentary, Perfect Strangers, will be screened in a special free community event at the Del Oro Theatre in Grass Valley on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at 7:00 PM.
Sponsored by Child Advocates of Nevada County, the evening will include a panel discussion immediately following the film, featuring local leaders and experts working on the front lines of child protection and exploitation prevention.
Directed by local filmmaker Lou Douros, Perfect Strangers exposes how todayโs digital culture, peer influence, and calculated grooming tactics are reshaping the landscape of exploitation – often hiding in plain sight. Through firsthand accounts, expert insight, and deeply personal stories, the film reveals how vulnerable young women are being manipulated into systems that masquerade as empowerment and choice.
โThis isnโt a story about what happens somewhere else,โ said Lou Douros, director of Perfect Strangers. โItโs happening here, in communities like ours, where many parents believe their children are insulated from these dangers. The reality is far more complex, and far more unsettling.โ

The film was inspired in part by the work of Nevada City Police Chief Dan Foss, whose advocacy for at-risk youth and involvement with child protection organizations helped shape the narrative.
โWeโve seen a shift,โ said Chief Dan Foss. โExploitation doesnโt always look like force or abduction anymore. It often begins with attention, affirmation, and trust. Thatโs what makes it so dangerous – and so difficult for families to recognize until itโs too late.โ
The screening aims to foster awareness, spark conversation, and equip parents, guardians, and community members with a deeper understanding of how exploitation operates in the modern world.
