Nevada City, CA — Ever find yourself asking, “What bird is that?” The Sierra Foothills Audubon Society invites the community to its next “For the Love of Birds” workshop on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, from 4:30 to 6:00 PM at the Madelyn Helling Library.
This lively, hands-on gathering is all about helping you connect with the birds you see every day—whether they’re visiting your feeder, calling from the trees, or hopping along your favorite walking trail in Nevada and Placer Counties.
Bring your bird questions! The SFAS Education Team wants to hear what you’ve been seeing and help you put names to those feathered neighbors. You’ll learn simple, practical ways to identify birds by size, shape, and color—as well as how to recognize them by their songs and calls.
Curious how to attract more birds to your yard? We’ll also share easy, effective ways to create a habitat that birds love, from providing food and water to creating safe spaces for nesting and raising young.
Stay for the fun, informal mingle at the end of the workshop, where you can chat one-on-one with SFAS Education Team and Board members, swap stories with fellow bird lovers, and share ideas for future workshops.
Light snacks will be provided—just enough to keep you going until dinner.

Whether you’re brand new to birding or have been watching birds for years, this welcoming workshop is a great way to deepen your connection to the natural world right outside your door.
The event is free and open to the public, and all experience levels are welcome.
