GRASS VALLEY, Calif. March 1, 2017 – On 03/01/2017 at approximately 11:15 am, 24-year old Ms. Karissa Ladd-Zankich of Grass Valley, as a sole occupant, was driving a 2001 Toyota Tundra westbound on Banner Lava Cap Road at a very high rate of speed. As Ms. Ladd-Zankich approached the intersection in Idaho-Maryland Rd., she lost control of her vehicle and began sliding sideways and to the left.
The vehicle crossed the eastbound lane and left the roadway, The vehicle struck and ascended a dirt embankment, causing the vehicle to become airborne. While in the air, the vehic1e first struck two chain link fences surrounding an Nevada Irrigation District (NID) storage facility. The vehicle continued through the air and next struck a pine tree several feet off the ground, severing it in half. The vehicle finally came to rest after impacting a second tree and dropping to the ground.
Ms. Ladd-Zankich was transported by air ambulance to Sutter Roseville Medical Center with unspecified serious injuries. Ms. Ladd-Zankich is suspected of driving under the influence of drugs and was placed under arrest. The incident remains under investigation by the Grass Valley CHP.
