GRASS VALLEY, Calif.—Cascades of Grass Valley is proud to introduce its fluffiest honorary staff member: Spencer, a three-year-old Goldendoodle who is redefining what it means to bring joy to senior living.

Spencer

Certified through the Alliance of Therapy Dogs, Spencer has already made a massive impact both within the Cascades community and across the broader Grass Valley area. Alongside his owner, Community Relations Director Angela Hammond, Spencer spends his days visiting local nursing homes, hospitals, and senior centers, sharing comfort, companionship, and plenty of tail wags wherever his paws take him.

At Cascades of Grass Valley, Spencer is much more than a personal support animal; he is a beloved family member to residents and staff alike. On any given day, Spencer can be found enthusiastically greeting visitors at the front door, proudly leading guests on community tours, or making his daily rounds to visit his favorite, self-designated “treat dealers” among the residents.

“The benefits of pet therapy are truly extraordinary,” says Angela Hammond. “Interacting with therapy dogs has been scientifically proven to reduce stress and anxiety, lower blood pressure, and spark meaningful social connections. For many of our residents, Spencer’s visits are the absolute highlight of their day.”

Spencer’s presence brings a unique energy to the community, fostering laughter and creating lasting memories for seniors who thrive on his unconditional companionship. Cascades of Grass Valley remains deeply grateful for the love and gentle spirit Spencer shares every day, proving that sometimes the best medicine really does come with four paws and a wagging tail.

Members of the public and local media are invited to visit the community to meet Spencer in person or learn more about the lifestyle programs offered at Cascades of Grass Valley.
