NEVADA CITY, Calif. May 9, 2019 – The Doris Foley Library for Historical Research is pleased to announce a special Meet the Author event on Tuesday, May 14th at 10:00 a.m. This program will feature local author Leslie Rivers and her novel, Fiery Star. Leslie will delight attendees in the highlights of her historical fiction piece that includes local history of our gold rush past.
Leslie will explain her process of research and discoveries she found along the way, some of her detective work was done right in the Doris Foley Library.
Fiery Star: The Journals of Emma Rose Lightfoot takes the reader into the rich and rugged world of nineteenth century California, and the lives of the actors who brought their art to the raw towns of the Gold Rush. It’s based on true events.
Leslie Rivers is a writer, actress, director and teacher, and she considers herself fortunate to have made her life in the theatre. When she was in her teens, she acted in a production of Bus Stop, staged in an old, 19th century hall. Beyond the rear of the building flowed the American River, smelling sweetly of sand and willow, and a stone’s throw from the spot where the California Gold Rush began–a cradle for what would one day be her novel, Fiery Star.
After Leslie’s presentation attendees will be able to ask questions and have time to explore the early days of Nevada County with a wealth of fascinating local documents and resources that are available for the public at the Doris Foley Library.
Space is limited for this exciting insight into a local authors process of writing and publishing a historical fiction piece. To register for this program, visit the Events Calendar at mynevadacounty.com/library or call (530) 265-4606
