About The Sam Grisman Project
Formed in 2022, The Sam Grisman Project brings a fresh and passionate interpretation of the timeless acoustic collaborations between legendary musicians David Grisman and Jerry Garcia. Led by upright bassist Sam Grisman, son of renowned mandolinist David “Dawg” Grisman, the band celebrates and reimagines the spirit of their fathers’ music while infusing their own original sound.
Reflecting on the inspiration behind the project, Sam Grisman shares:
“The music that my father, David Grisman, and his close friend, Jerry Garcia, made in the early ‘90s—recorded in the house I grew up in—is not only some of the most timeless acoustic music ever recorded, it also triggers my oldest and fondest musical memories. What I find most inspiring about this material is the camaraderie, love, and joy that simply oozes out of each recording.”
Grisman’s vision for the project is not just to revive his father’s and Garcia’s catalog, but to honor the impact of their music on a new generation of listeners. By curating a mix of traditional folk, bluegrass, and original compositions, The Sam Grisman Project creates an immersive experience that connects audiences to the heart and soul of American roots music.
