September 15, 2017 – Moms On Mountains is a fun-filled hiking day for women at Sugar Bowl resort, sponsored by the Nevada City Schools Foundation and is open to the public. It is a non-competitive day of scenic beauty, personal challenge and fun for women: mothers and non-moms alike. We’ve had 3 generations hiking and raising funds at the same event. Our hikers have ranged in age from 18 to 80+.
MOMs is an official fundraiser for the Nevada City Schools Foundation, a nonprofit made up of volunteers who work closely with the district to benefit all local schools in our community. It has raised more than $500,000 since inception. In the past the event averaged about 160 hikers, who choose from three trails of different levels of difficulty, to ensure accessibility for everyone that wants to participate
After a brief hiatus for about 3 years, Moms on the Mountain was once again established in 2016, thanks in large part to a new committee of volunteers. With the funds earned we were able to purchase technology and art supplies in 2016. This year we are proud to support “Girls Who Code”, a nationwide program to get girls interested in programming. Seven Hills is hosting the Girls who Code program for all of Nevada County. For more information about the program visit, girlswhocode.com
School budgets are still tight and schools are still in a situation of declining enrollment so fundraisers like MOMs are still greatly needed for our schools to provide funding for technology, the arts, as well as student program support.
To register, hikers must raise a minimum of $75 in sponsorships. Participation includes a T-shirt, light breakfast before the hike, a luncheon and silent auction in the lodge after, as well as free massages (not to mention a fun day away with ladies benefiting our schools). Bring your friends…the more the merrier! Form a team, share the experience and compete for team awards and great prizes. If you raise the most money you could win a brand new bike courtesy of 7 Hills Bicycle Recycle Project. We hope to see you up on the mountain this year!
