Mt. Howell Vegetation Management Project Nov. 2-3

CAL FIRE/Placer County Fire is implementing a live fire operation on the Mt. Howell Fire Lookout State property in Placer County near Colfax.

Weather conditions permitting, the burn will begin Monday November 2^nd, 2026, at 8:30 am and be completed by 5:00 pm on Tuesday November 3^rd, 2026.

This burn will help eliminate up to 38 acres of annual grass and understory fuels to provide defensible space around the fire lookout and telecommunication infrastructure. The prescribed burn will also offer training to firefighters and help reduce invasive species.

The burn will be ignited starting around 8:30 am and be completed by 5:00 pm. Smoke will be visible in the Colfax area and surrounding communities.

Resources will remain at scene until all fire is extinguished and continue to check the burn for several days following the project’s completion.
