June 1, 2017 – The Music in the Mountains (MIM) Chorus and MIM Chamber Orchestra will present two performances this weekend of a new classical choral concert. Under the direction of Ryan Murray, conductor, pieces will feature local vocal soloists Kathleen Magee Querec, lyric soprano, and Bren Altenbach, boy soprano, along with organ soloist Kevin McKelvie. Performances are Friday at 7:30 and Saturday at 2:00 at Peace Lutheran Church in Grass Valley. Tickets are available at www.musicinthemountains.org or by calling (530) 265-6124.
“For anyone with interest in choral music, this is a concert not to miss,” explained Murray. “This is one of the best choral programs we have ever presented, and the chorus sounds fantastic. This concert is about the beauty of singing, and every piece showcases the human voice.”
The highlight of the program will be Requiem for the Living by Dan Forrest, composed in 2013, which is garnering high praise as it is discovered around the globe. Conductor Ryan Murray describes this work as “neo-romantic,” with rich melodies and harmonies. The ethereal Sanctus movement of this piece was inspired by photos from the Hubble Space Telescope. Another highlight will be Joseph Haydn’s Missa brevis Sancti Joannis de Deo (Little Organ Mass).
