Nevada County’s Music in the Mountains (MIM) is delighted to congratulate Artistic Director and Conductor, Ryan Murray, on furthering his commitment to bringing high-quality classical music performances and education to our foothills community. Murray was recently announced as the newly appointed Music Director and Conductor for the Auburn Symphony, furthering and solidifying his artistic influence in the Northern California region with his musical expertise.
“I am thrilled to be joining the Auburn Symphony as their next music director,” notes Murray. “I’m looking forward to continuing my exciting work with Music in the Mountains and undertaking this new adventure with the Auburn Symphony. I am delighted to have the opportunity to deepen my connection to our wonderful communities in the Sierra Nevada Foothills!”
Ryan Murray is currently the Artistic Director of Music in the Mountains and the Associate Conductor of the Modesto Symphony Orchestra. He is also the Director of Symphony Orchestra & Opera at California State University, Sacramento, and the Conductor for the Sacramento Youth Symphony’s premier orchestra.
Auburn Symphony Executive Director Anne Brown shares that “The Auburn Symphony is delighted to strengthen the collaborative relationships we enjoy with our colleagues at Music in the Mountains. Patrons of the arts in our shared foothills communities will benefit from the partnership that will grow, and we look forward to sharing the talents of this up and coming conductor.”
An award-winning opera conductor, Ryan spent his early career working as an assistant conductor and répétiteur. He has served as assistant conductor for opera productions at the Sacramento Philharmonic and is the past Music Director of Fresno Grand Opera. Murray previously worked as a staff conductor for the Bay Area Summer Opera Theater Institute (BASOTI) and The Opera Academy of California in San Francisco.
Effortlessly moving between genres, Ryan currently enjoys a wide range of performance genres & platforms, including traditional orchestral and operatic repertoire, pops performances, movies in concert, and a notable emphasis on contemporary American operatic works.
“I am excited for both Ryan and the Auburn Symphony,” exclaims MIM’s Executive Director, Jenny Darlington-Person. “They could not have found a better candidate for their next music director, and I couldn’t ask for a better partner in this work. Our community is fortunate to have a talented, knowledgeable and passionate artist leading both organizations.”
Murray’s recent production with MIM on Saturday, April 2nd, bringing the Baroque Orchestra performance with period-true instruments to Grass Valley with Sinfonia Spirituosa, was received with wild applause and wonderful appreciation for the commitment to authentic classical music. His addition to the Auburn symphony will be a boon to classical music for the entire region.
