The Music in the Mountains Youth Orchestra (MIMYO) will perform its fall concert at 7 pm on Monday, November 15th, 2021 at the Sierra Academy of Expeditionary Learning in Nevada City. The concert features music by Schubert, Haydn, Bartok, and more.
Led by conductor Wayland Whitney, MIMYO continues the tradition of offering the orchestral experience to players in grades 3-12, under the direction of professional conductors. String, woodwind, brass, and percussion players will work on classical repertoire during weekly rehearsals at the beautiful new Center for the Arts.

The orchestra has three sessions during the school year, culminating in a concert at the end of each period. Students are placed in the ensemble based on their abilities, experience, etc. according to the director’s assessment. The next session begins on Monday, November 22nd and continues through to March 3rd. For more information about MIMYO, email marges@musicinthemountainsorg.
These programs are generously underwritten by members of our community. “It is important to us to support music education and to support the children in Nevada County,” notes MIM Board Member Julia Amaral. “We want the future generations of our community to have an appreciation of fine music.”
