A PROCLAMATION
Honoring Nevada County Educators and Staff for Their Exemplary Response to the Challenges During the Covid-19 Pandemic
WHEREAS, the 11,975 students in Nevada County schools are served by an accomplished community of more than 1,936 educators and staff that comprise a vital force in improving lives and livelihoods in our Sierra Nevada community; and
WHEREAS, the COVID-19 pandemic presented unprecedented professional and personal challenges for Nevada County Educators and Staff, requiring an immediate shift to online instruction resulting in stress for students, parents, and educators, including emotional health and safety concerns, critical childcare needs and expenses, and challenging teaching and learning issues; and
WHEREAS, Nevada County Educators and Staff, recognizing that the pandemic had disconnected our County K-12 students from daily routines and support systems, secured professional help-for emotionally distressed students and often served themselves as vital emotional supports for students; and
WHEREAS, Nevada County Educators and Staff ensured that all students had access to laptops or tablets and established temporary WIFI hotspots allowing all students access to distance education; and
WHEREAS, many Nevada County Educators and Staff used their own money to purchase supplies for students who lacked necessities for online instruction, to buy computers and technical devices to improve teachers’ home ”remote classrooms,” and, later in the pandemic, to acquire personal protective equipment and classroom cleaning supplies; and
WHEREAS, Nevada County Educators and Staff spent countless hours re-training in distance education methods for teaching and counseling students; maintaining academic rigor, and mastering online classroom management tasks; and
WHEREAS, Nevada County Educators and Staff delivered meals to families, spent untold hours in phone and online conferences with parents and students, accepted expanded workloads due to staff shortages in and out of the classroom, and collaborated with District and County colleagues to understand and comply with all local and state regulations; and
WHEREAS, Nevada County Educators and Staff navigated a successful return to in person instruction, adapting to personnel shortages due to staff and student illnesses and quarantines, complying with legally required health mandates, arid, all the while, maintaining academic rigor and classroom morale.
Now, THEREFORE, we, the Nevada County Superintendent of Schools and the Nevada County Board of Education hereby proudly commend Nevada County Educators and Staff for their dedication and professionalism throughout this pandemic.

IN WITNESS THEREOF, the Nevada County Superintendent of Schools and the Nevada County Board of Education has hereunto set our hand and caused the Executive Seal of the Nevada County Superintendent of Schools to be affixed on this, eleventh day of May, in the year Two Thousand and Twenty-two in the City of Grass Valley, California.
