Join Dave Weixelman for an evening of highlights and stories of his 10-day trek to the Langtang Valley in Nepal in fall 2025. The trip provided an incredible, immersive experience in one of the most beautiful places on earth. Highlights of his trip included visiting the city of Bhaktapur, near Kathmandu, visiting temples and palaces in Durbar Square, and trekking to villages in the high Himalayan mountains. Dave enjoyed botanizing and seeing the diverse flora in the mountains of Nepal.
He will also update us about the disastrous flood, which occurred recently on August 26. It was triggered by a massive glacier-related collapse that caused catastrophic flash flooding across multiple districts, including the area of his 2025 trek, near the village of Syabrubesi on the Bhote Koshi River area of Nepal, one of the hardest hit areas in the flooding.
Donations to CATS received that evening will be donated to the Nepal/Tibet relief efforts.
The public is welcome to meet the presenter and enjoy cookies afterwards. Dave obtained a B.A. degree in Botany and an M.S. degree in Natural Resources Management from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. Now retired, he was a botanist with the U.S. Forest Service for 37 years. Dave’s hobbies include botany, astronomy and hiking, especially in the high mountains of North America and, most recently, in Nepal.
