Nevada City, CA August 9, 2018 – Redefining Prosperity, an award winning documentary about the transformation of culture and the economy in Nevada City, CA, has been released internationally through the film distribution company, Bullfrog Films. It is currently available for screenings worldwide in both educational and community settings. DVDs for personal use are available locally, exclusively at Harmony Books in Nevada City.

Redefining Prosperity; The Gold Rushes of Nevada City is the story of how a mining town recovered from its legacy of pollution and prospered by building community through the campaign to save the Yuba River.

“Towns across America and beyond are struggling with how to regenerate their landscapes, and invigorate culture and economies, after more than a century of reliance on extractive industries,” said the film’s director, John de Graaf. “I hope this film will provide inspiration for people everywhere to identify projects and get busy with plans that will improve their communities.”

“Redefining Prosperity presents a compelling look at how our community came to recognize the value of working together, rather than working only for personal gain,” said Stacey Colin, owner of Harmony Books. “I’m pleased to offer Redefining Prosperity DVDs for sale locally in the very building where the value of gold ore was once assessed.”

Redefining Prosperity premiered at Wild & Scenic Film Festival in January of 2018, where it won the People’s Choice Award. It also won the New Paradigm award at the Earth Day Film Festival in Chico, CA. It has been broadcast by KVIE, public television in Sacramento.
