The award-winning Nevada City Film Festival (NCFF) is pleased to announce the launch of the Filmed in Nevada County Grant, awarding filmmakers between $1,000 and $20,000 for short film or episodic productions that complete at least 50% of principal photography in Nevada County, California – including Nevada City, Grass Valley, Truckee, and surrounding rural areas.
Building on NCFF’s 25-year legacy of supporting independent filmmakers and excellence in storytelling, this program not only provides funding, but also strengthens connections between filmmakers, production companies, local businesses, and audiences. By promoting local vendors, services, and locations, the grant underscores Nevada County’s growing reputation as a filmmaking destination.
“Over the years we have supported local filmmaking through a variety of grants and opportunities, including the annual film festival,” said Jesse Locks, NCFF executive director. “This new program will also highlight Nevada County as a hub for film production while creating jobs and generating economic impact for our community.”
To encourage emerging filmmakers, up to two recipients will also be offered optional mentorship and guidance from experienced local filmmakers and producers, provided in partnership with NCFF and the Golden Sierra Film Alliance (GSFA).

“We’re excited to partner with NCFF to offer support and mentorship to emerging voices,” enthused Andrew Haley, president of GSFA. “Filmmaking is a collaborative art form and Northern California is rich with experienced and talented filmmakers. Our goal is to connect them together to realize artistically significant and commercially viable works.”
Grantees will also have the opportunity to screen their films at the annual Nevada City Film Festival in June.
