Nevada City, Calif. —At the City of Nevada City June 26, 2024, City Council meeting the City Council approved a second Business Development and Sustainability Fee Waiver Program. The program looks to assist businesses to sustain and expand their offerings as well as assist new business to open. The program is first come first serve and will continue until the $50,000 allocated is used or through June 30, 2025 whichever comes first. The program allows up to $250 in City fee waivers for businesses in the following categories of fees:

  • Business License or Home Occupation Permit (one-year only and cannot be used for the $4 state fee)
  • Conditional Use Permit
  • Architectural Review: Non-Residential
  • Sign Review
  • Encroachment Permit: Parklet or Sidewalk Dining
  • Special Event Fees for Business Generating Event

Applicants must either be a business in good standing with a current Nevada City business license or obtain a first-time business license in Nevada City through the fee waiver program. Other fees, taxes, past due fees, or fees already paid are not eligible for fee waiver under this program. It is anticipated that businesses may use the fee waivers to:

  • Install a new sign at a business
  • Open a new business
  • Pay for a new or renewal business license
  • Obtain a conditional use permit for outdoor dining on private property of an existing business
  • Repaint or remodel an existing business
  • Add on to an existing business
  • Implement outdoor sidewalk or develop an outdoor dining parklet

When submitting an application for any of the eligible categories of fees, businesses will be able to sign and date a separate form indicating their application for the fee waiver program and it can be approved by staff at the time of the transaction. The City asks that this information be shared broadly so that all businesses may have an opportunity to participate.
