NEVADA CITY, Calif. March 8, 2017 – We are in the final month of Beards for a Cause.  Some of our Officer participants could use support for the stretch drive.  As you remember, in late November, four Officers of the Nevada City Police Department wanted to get into the holiday spirit of giving and requested approval to grow beards as a fund raising effort to benefit a local community based organization, The Friendship Club.  Approval was granted and the Officers started growing their beards on December 1, 2016.  The four Officers will be bearded through the end of March and will contribute 15 dollars a month, $60.00, toward the fundraising effort.  One additional Officer contributed a $60.00 donation but will remain clean shaven.  Chief Foley is matching the five $60 contribution made by each Officer for a total of $300.00.  When the word got out about the fundraiser, a Dispatcher from the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center wanted to join in on the fun.

The Friendship Club provides a year-round, comprehensive program for over 100 girls  per year. Their mission is to engage, educate and empower girls at risk in grades 6-12.   The Friendship Club has partnered with the Nevada City Police Officers in the fundraising effort by developing a webpage to invite community members to assist and support this effort.  Contributions can be directed to individual Officers to help them reach their goals.  The website can be found at  https://www.firstgiving.com/team/341018/edit
