Nevada City, Calif. — The Nevada City Public Arts Commission (PAC) invites community members to participate in a public workshop regarding a proposed art installation at the Broad Street Y intersection. The workshop will be held on Wednesday, March 5, at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall, immediately preceding the regular PAC meeting.

The workshop will gather public input on potential art themes for the raised area between East Broad and West Broad streets, where new benches are also proposed. During their February meeting, commissioners discussed various artistic concepts including a clock, sundial, or statue for this prominent location.

“Community voice is essential in shaping public art that truly represents Nevada City,” said Celine Negrete, Chair of the Public Arts Commission. “We encourage residents to attend this workshop and share their creative ideas, concerns, and perspectives. This installation will become a focal point in our historic downtown, and we want it to reflect our collective vision.”

The Broad Street Y serves as a gateway intersection in Nevada City’s downtown area, making it an ideal location for a significant public art piece that enhances the pedestrian experience and celebrates the community’s cultural identity.

“Public art creates a sense of place and belonging,” noted Shannon Harney, Vice-Chair of the Public Arts Commission. “This workshop is a perfect opportunity for community members to become involved in the arts beyond being spectators. Whether you’re an artist, a business owner, or simply someone who loves Nevada City, your input helps weave art into the fabric of our community and create spaces that inspire connection.”

The PAC welcomes all ideas and comments regarding the proposed installation. Those unable to attend the workshop may submit written comments to the Public Arts Commission via City Hall prior to March 5.
