It’s time for second helpings. The Nevada City Rotary Club is once again presenting “The Hungry Games II” – a major fundraiser dedicated to food, wine, and the fine art of gourmet cooking on Sunday, November 13, from 4 to 8 pm at Peace Lutheran Church Fellowship Center.
This year, Nevada City’s hugely popular Ham Stand takes over cooking duties following the original Hungry Games’ first place win among competing restaurants. Owner/chef Jason Jillson promises three different gourmet tastings from around the world. His cadre of chefs will compete in a “Top Chef” style cooking competition.
Following up on the huge success of our first Hungry Games, the highlights will include a “Top Chef” style cooking competition among local chefs, dessert vendors, silent and live exclusive auctions hosted by Pacific Auction Company, and a “winner-take-all” raffle for $1,200 worth of $100 meals from 12 local restaurants.
Desserts, non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase.
All proceeds from the event will go to help fund the many Nevada City Rotary community service initiatives as a Club and in partnership with other organizations such as Food Bank of Nevada County. The club sponsors local youth programs such as Rotary Eighth Grade Leadership and Rotary Youth Leadership Awakening youth leadership camps, academic scholarships, high school music and speech competitions and Girls Who Code, an afterschool program that encourages and trains middle school girls for careers in computer science.
Rotary members also fly to Mexico’s rural Southern Baja peninsula every year to perform health screening on local students and adults. The Club also participates in Rotary International clean water projects and polio eradication.
Raffle tickets to win $1,200 in restaurant gift certificates are $100 and will include general admission for one person. The raffle will be limited to 100 tickets. Raffle tickets can be obtained from Nevada City Rotarians. Raffle tickets will also be available at the event. Raffle winner does not have to be present to win.
General admission is $25 in advance, $35 at the door, which includes tastings from the chef competition. Event tickets can be obtained at The Bookseller, Harmony Books, and from your Nevada City Rotary friends.
