Nevada City, CA – The City of Nevada City Engineering and Public Works team is underway on a project to rehabilitate and improve the “Broad Street Y” as part of its Capital Improvement Plan. In 2018, the City Council prioritized this section of upper Broad St, between the intersection of Broad and Commercial Streets to the intersection of West Broad and East Broad St.
Waterline repair work is currently being done, with a break between Thanksgiving and New Year’s, and completion is expected in early January. Phase 2 includes enhanced crosswalks, matching up the stop signs at East/West Broad, wider sidewalks (with railing used judiciously in certain sections), cross-slope improvements to level the road for better drainage, replacement of deteriorated pavement, and city streetlights. Phase 2 will take place from Feb., 15 to June 15, 2025. These improvements will help to provide safe, convenient, and efficient pedestrian and vehicular access within the Downtown Historic District.
The City is working with local contractors, Hansen Bros for waterline, roadway, and drainage work; Gray Electric for lighting; and Weiss Landscaping for concrete work. Funding for the project comes from a combination of State and Local Funds, including City Measure “M” funds, State SB 1 Local Partnership funds for street rehabilitation, Local Transportation Pedestrian/Bicycle Funds (LTF), Regional Surface Transportation Program Claim appropriations, and Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act funds.

City staff will host a Community Workshop to provide more information on the project, discuss, and hear feedback on Tues., Dec. 10 at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall, 317 Broad St. For community members that cannot attend in person, we will receive written comments. We will also post more project information and progress updates on the City’s website: NevadaCityCA.gov.
