Nevada City, Calif. – On July 23, 2026, the Nevada City Council unanimously approved (4-0) moving forward with a proposed five-year rate adjustment for Nevada City water and wastewater (sewer) customers. California state law requires that customers have the opportunity to protest or object to rate increases through what is commonly referred to as a Proposition 218 process. A Public Hearing will be held on October 14, 2026, 6:30 p.m., City Hall, 317 Broad St., Nevada City.

Those who find legal grounds for objecting to the proposed rate increases must file a written objection to identify the legal basis by October 1, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. Anyone wishing to protest the proposed rates must provide a written, signed protest to the Office of the City Clerk by 5:00 p.m. on October 14, 2026, or before the close of the Public Comment period during the Public Hearing on that same day. Only one protest per property will be accepted and must be signed by the customer of record or tenant who has legal liability for the utility account. The protest must include the property address or APN and the original signature of the person filing the protest. If the property owner has more than one property, a protest for each property must be submitted.
