City Hall Art Meets the Public Art Gallery

“We are excited to launch the City Hall Public Art Gallery as a way to bring art into the daily life of Nevada City residents, business community, and visitors,” said Mayor Gary Petersen. “Our neighborhoods are the foundation of our community, and this first exhibit is a celebration of the strength and creativity that each neighborhood brings to our city.”

The “Year of the Neighborhood” exhibit will run from early January 2025 through May 1, 2025, showcasing works that celebrate Nevada City’s vibrant neighborhoods. Artists are invited to submit pieces that interpret the theme broadly, exploring how neighborhoods foster togetherness, provide support, and create a space for people to thrive.

Artists are encouraged to submit pieces that address a broad interpretation of the theme of “The Year of the Neighborhood”. “We are better together, and neighborhoods create a framework for people to thrive while also fostering resilience,” said City Planner Lisa McCandless.

The gallery offers flexible space, including multiple walls in City Hall’s main hallway and a dedicated area for 3D hanging exhibits outside council chambers. Artists may submit work in various formats, including 2-D paintings, prints, collages, mixed media, photography, and panels. All pieces can be offered for sale, with artist contact and pricing details displayed alongside each work.
