Nevada County is among the first counties in California to offer property owners a new E-Bill option designed to make it easier to keep track of property tax bills and upcoming payment deadlines.

The launch comes just as annual secured property tax bills are set to be mailed.  This yearโ€™s bills will include a unique E-Billing code that property owners can use to enroll in the new E-bill service.  The Treasurer-Tax Collectorโ€™s Office encourages residents to watch for their bill in the mail and take advantage of this convenient new option.

With E-Billing, enrolled property owners can receive reminder notifications before payment due dates. They will also have 24/7 online access to view or download a PDF copy of their tax bill.

Nevada County is just one of a handful of counties across the state to offer the E-Bill service. The Nevada County Treasurer-Tax Collectorโ€™s Office launched the new option in response to requests from property owners for a more convenient way to access and manage their property tax bills.

โ€œPeople are busy. They travel, mail can get misplaced, and by the time the second installment is due, it may have been months since they received their tax bill,โ€ said Nevada County Treasurer-Tax Collector Michelle Bodley. โ€œEโ€‘Billing helps property owners stay on top of important payment deadlines.โ€

State law requires the Treasurer-Tax Collector to send just one secured property tax bill each year by November 1. Because this single bill includes both the first and second installments, no additional paper notice is sent before the second installment comes due, so it can be easy to lose track of the deadline.

Those who sign up for E-Bills will continue to receive paper bills as well.
