Nevada City, CA – Nevada County has awarded $20,000 in micro-grants to six community organizations innovative, small-scale, community-led initiatives that strengthen local climate resilience. The micro-grants are provided through The Resilience Project of Western Nevada County, a community collaborative led by a Governing Board comprised of 6 local agencies.
Community-based organizations and tribal entities were eligible to apply for micro-grants of up to $4,000 to implement projects focused on resilience, sustainability, and community preparedness.
The six awarded projects include:
- The Community Foundation of Nevada County to host the Zero Waste Nevada City Summit
- John Muir Academy to develop a Climate Resilience Demonstration Garden as part of the Land Stewardship and Regenerative Agriculture Program for Opportunity Youth
- The Feral Land Project to implement a Small Firewise Drought-Tolerant and Pollinator-Inclusive Demonstration Garden
- Friends of Shady Creek Foundation to support the implementation of Wildfire Resilience and Forest Stewardship Activities at Shady Creek Outdoor School
- Sierra Energy Reimagined (SERi) to expand the Home Energy Wise Program
- North Gold Senior Mountaineers Inc. to establish the North San Juan Climate Ready Community Center
Applications were reviewed and scored by an independent panel comprised of 5 staff member representatives from The Resilience Project governing board agencies. The Resilience Project’s mission is to cultivate a resilient rural future through education, conservation, land stewardship, and storytelling that connects people, nature, and working lands amid changing climate and economic conditions.
Funding for the Resilience Project of Western Nevada County and the micro-grant program was provided by the Regional Resilience Grant Program, administered by the California Office of Land Use and Climate Innovation.
