NEVADA CITY, Calif. June 14, 2017 – The Nevada County Board of Supervisors recognized Susan Healy-Harman as she is retiring after heading the Transit Services Department for close to ten years.
BOS Chair Hank Weston read the certificate below before presenting it to Susan.
“The Nevada County Board of Supervisors takes great pleasure in recognizing Susan Healy-Harman for nearly ten years of service as Transit Services Manager in Nevada County. Prior to her service as Transit Services Manager, Susan was the Director at Gold Country Telecare, Paratransit Services in Grass Valley.
After earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts with a minor in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin, Susan completed her post graduate studies at the University of Los Angeles, Fine Arts Department. She then attended the Transit and Paratransit Management Program at the Pepperdine University, Graziadio School of Business and Management.
Just three months after becoming Nevada County’s Transit Services Manager, Susan led the Transit Services Department through the challenges of the Great Recession by protecting core public transit services. Over time she successfully was able to re-expand services that were suspended due to funding losses.
Susan’s accomplishments as Nevada County Transit Services Manager include procuring an Easter Seals/Project Action grant to develop and implement a community stakeholders group and create a Nevada County Transportation Plan to increase and support mobility options in western Nevada County. She also procured funding for the “Dump the Pump, Ride the Bus” Free Fare Program.
Susan also oversaw the development of a Transit Services Bus Driver Trainee Program and was a part of the development, construction and opening of the Tinloy Transit Center.
During her tenure, Susan actively partnered with County departments, community agencies and organizations to support transportation access and independence, especially for the elderly, persons with disabilities and disadvantaged populations. She also attended the Emergency Management Institute, Integrated Emergency Management Course in Emmitsburg, MD with 59 other Nevada County employees.
Throughout her service as Transit Services Manager, Susan has been a tremendous leader to the Transit Services/Gold Country Stage team and County staff have enjoyed working with her every day.
Therefore, the Nevada County Board of Supervisors thanks Susan Healy-Harman for her years of dedicated service and leadership and wishes her a wonderful retirement.”
