NEVADA CITY, Calif. April 3, 2017 – The Nevada County Cannabis Alliance is delighted to announce it will host a Town Hall Meeting April 17 from 6 to 8 pm at the Nevada Theater in Nevada City featuring Amber Morris, branch chief of the California Department of Food and Agriculture’s CalCannabis Cultivation Licensing Branch (formerly known as the Medical Cannabis Cultivation Program, or MCCP).

For the first time in history, the state of California is partnering with cultivators statewide to roll out a set of monumental changes to regulations that will bring legitimacy to cannabis cultivation. The new regulations will address the commercial cannabis licensing process for the state.

Morris is likely the most important expert in cultivation licensing in the state of California, being tasked with creating a tiered permit fee program which will determine how farmers will fit within the new market structure. CalCannabis is also in the process of developing the “track-and-trace system” to record the movement of cannabis through the distribution chain.

Join us for a conversation with Morris as the first draft of regulations roll out later this month. Nevada County may very well be the first community Morris talks to about new regulations, the importance of local permitting, and how to prepare for 2018.

Special guest Hezekiah Allen, Executive Director of the California Growers Association, will be offering statewide cultivation policy updates. Nevada County Cannabis Alliance Board Members will share important local updates. Tawnie Logan, Executive director of Sonoma County Growers Alliance , will be moderating the conversation and giving us perspective about how Sonoma growers organized to help pass a robust cultivation ordinance and permitting process in their county and how cultivators can participate in changing the cultivation licensing landscape in their own communities.
