NEVADA CITY, Calif. September 12, 2016 – Last Thursday, September 8, 2016, I became aware of letters sent to properly registered citizens of Nevada County indicating that they are not registered to vote. The letters also state within “GOVERNMENT DOCUMENT ENCLOSED”. These letters are not from any governmental agency.
The letters are from the Voter Participation Center. These letters claim that the addressee voter is not registered to vote and they have a pre-filled voter registration form that may have incorrect or outdated information. After responding to a few calls, it is clear that the mailings are causing confusion and great concern for our properly registered Nevada County voters just two months before the November Presidential General Election.
If you have any questions about your voter registration status, please check directly with our office or visit our website at www.mynevadacounty.com/nc/elections. Our website allows voters to verify their voter registration information. Our online verification tool is quick and easy. This resource is available to you 24/7.
Also, contact information for all California county elections officials and links to county online voter registration status tools are available on the Secretary of State’s website at: http://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/registration-status/.
Nevada County Voter Information Pamphlets with Sample Ballots for the November Presidential General Election are scheduled to be mailed early next month. All voters receiving a Voter Information Pamphlet can be assured they are listed as active on our voter file. If you have already registered to vote, you do not need to re-register unless you change your name, change your residential address or if you want to change or select a political party. We encourage you to register online at http://registertovote.ca.gov. If you must re-register, please re-register prior to the October 24, 2016 voter registration deadline.
