October 23, 2019 – In preparation for the current Red Flag Warning and the upcoming Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS), Nevada County Fire Agencies including Grass Valley Fire Department, Nevada County Consolidated Fire District, Peardale-Chicago Fire District and Ophir Hill Fire District have come together to form a Task Force that will be available in addition to normal staffing patterns.
The Task Force will consist two Type III Engines with off-road capabilities, two Type I Engines for structure defense and a water tender for additional water supply. Cal OES Fire and Rescue Assistant Chief, Corey Zander was instrumental in securing approval by Cal OES for supplemental personnel at no additional cost to the fire districts. Cal OES has committed the resources for the duration of these events just as they would for any other statewide emergency.
Local fire agencies want to remind the public to maintain “Situational Awareness” during these events and use the utmost care with heating, cooking and power generating devices.
