On Tuesday evening, August 21st, Nevada County Habitat for Humanity (NCHFH) celebrated the dedication of its 45th home, marking a significant milestone for both the organization and the community. The event was filled with laughter, gratitude, and a profound sense of camaraderie as volunteers, donors, and friends gathered to welcome Angela and her three children into their new home.

The dedication ceremony was led by NCHFH Executive Director Lorraine Larson, who expressed deep appreciation on behalf of the organization. Board Chair Andy Kramer thanked all those in attendance for their continued support. Reverend Kevin Tarsa offered a blessing over the home and presented the family with a Bible. Construction Manager Ian Nansen shared stories of the teamwork and perseverance required to bring the project to completion.

โ€œToday is a day of love and celebration, and we are here to dedicate this beautiful home and celebrate this great victory in the mission to provide affordable housing in Nevada County,โ€ said, Lorraine Larson, Nevada County Habitat for Humanity Executive Director.

Special guest Mike Dent, Nevada Countyโ€™s Director of Child Support, Housing, and Community Service, speaking on behalf of the County as well as the Regional Housing Trust Fund, commented, “We wanted to let you know that the team, which is not just Nevada County, but also Grass Valley and Nevada City support this objective.ย Itโ€™s one of our goals.”

The Regional Housing Trust Fund (RHTF), was a key contributor toward the completion of the project. The RHTF is a consortium of Nevada County, Grass Valley, and Nevada City and represents their shared commitment to addressing the issue of affordable housing.

The highlight of the event was the ribbon-cutting ceremony, where Angela and her children took center stage. Angela, who devoted over 500 hours of sweat equity to help build the home, was visibly moved as she and her children cut the yellow ribbon, symbolizing the beginning of a new chapter for their family. Attendees celebrated Angelaโ€™s dedication and hard work with applause and warm congratulations.

The event concluded with a reception featuring cake and refreshments, allowing time for reflection, fellowship, and storytelling. As friends, neighbors, and supporters mingled, the atmosphere was one of shared accomplishment and joy. This home represents more than bricks and mortarโ€”it stands as a testament to the spirit of friendship and the shared commitment to building a better future for our local community members.

Nevada County Habitat for Humanity extends its heartfelt gratitude to the local businesses and partners who contributed to this project.

Local businesses and individuals are encouraged to support the organization via its upcoming Street of Dreams gala on September 26th.
