With over 20,000 Nevada County households still without power, the County of Nevada has partnered with the Red Cross to open an overnight cold weather shelter in the Bear River High School Multipurpose Room at 11130 Magnolia Road. The shelter will provide heat, food, and showers to guests. Service animals are welcome. No pets are allowed.
The Bear River shelter will replace the overnight shelter at the Madelyn Helling Library Community Room. The Madelyn Helling Library will remain open until 6:00 tonight for residents to warm up and charge their devices.
Nevada County Transit Services will provide rides to the Bear River shelter from both the Madelyn Helling Library and the Tinloy Transit Center in Grass Valley until 6 pm tonight. Residents can call 211 at 1-833-DIAL211 for additional transportation information.
