Grass Valley, Calif. August 8, 2016 – In Nevada County, there is a lot to celebrate in August, including National Breastfeeding Awareness month. Internationally, UNICEF, WABA (World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action), and WHO (World Health Organization) have recognized World Breastfeeding Week as August 1-7, and the USDA adopted this week as National WIC Breastfeeding Week.
For the Public Health Department’s Supplemental Nutrition Program, Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), we are carrying the celebration forward into this week at our local Nevada County Fair August 10th-14th, where we plan to collaborate with our libraries to provide a “Family Rest Stop” booth just outside the Ponderosa building, near Gate 3.
We encourage families to stop and rest at our booth, enjoy a cushioned chair, a cool breeze, and enjoy story time. The Nevada County Breastfeeding Coalition will also have their “Rock-n-Relax” booth inside the Ponderosa building for a cool and private area for infant feeding and diaper changing.
We all have a role in making our communities more breastfeeding-friendly, and we look forward to seeing many of our families enjoying themselves at the fair.
