Nevada City, CA — February 10, 2026 — Nevada County Treasurer-Tax Collector Michelle Bodley announced today that she will not seek election in 2026, concluding a distinguished 23-year career in county financial service. Bodley, who was appointed Treasurer-Tax Collector in 2023, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and reaffirmed her commitment to excellence through the remainder of her term.

“Serving the residents of Nevada County has been the greatest honor of my professional life,” Bodley said. “Every decision I have made has been guided by the principles of fiscal responsibility, transparency, and strict adherence to the law. I am deeply proud of the work our office has accomplished on behalf of taxpayers and local agencies.”

A Record of Fiscal Stewardship

Bodley holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and began her county career in the Auditor-Controller’s Office, where she developed expertise in accounting law, compliance, internal controls, and the separation of duties essential to safeguarding public funds.

Since her appointment as Treasurer-Tax Collector, Bodley has overseen significant accomplishments, including:

• Record Investment Earnings: More than $28 million generated in interest earnings for schools, special districts, and county programs—without raising taxes.
• Strong Property Tax Collections: A sustained 98% secured tax collection rate, ensuring stable funding for public safety, education, and essential services.
• Tourism Revenue Growth: Record Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) collections, paired with streamlined administrative processes supporting the local tourism economy.
• Modernization Efforts: Leadership in the banking and settlement components of a new countywide financial system, improving accuracy, transparency, and real-time cash flow visibility.
• Statewide Policy Leadership: Representation of Nevada County on executive and legislative committees addressing tax administration and property-owner protections.

“This office carries immense fiduciary responsibility,” Bodley said. “Managing hundreds of millions of dollars requires independence, rigorous internal controls, and decisions grounded solely in law and accuracy.”

Endorsement of Shauneen Gracey

As part of her announcement, Bodley formally endorsed Shauneen Gracey, the county’s Assistant Treasurer-Tax Collector, as the most qualified candidate to serve as Nevada County’s next Treasurer-Tax Collector.

“Shauneen Gracey brings more than thirteen years of experience within this office and a deep command of the complex legal framework governing public finance,” Bodley said. “She leads with professionalism, integrity, and impartiality. I am confident she will continue to protect taxpayer funds, maintain transparency, and uphold the public trust.”

Bodley added, “Shauneen is a lifelong Nevada County resident who genuinely cares about this community and its financial well-being. Her experience, education, and institutional knowledge make her the right choice to serve as our next Treasurer-Tax Collector. She has my full endorsement and support.”
