Western Nevada County – Nevada County School of the Arts (NCSA) is thrilled to announce the launch of Horizon Choir, a brand-new, inclusive youth chorus open to all Nevada County students in grades 4–8. Beginning September 9, 2025, Horizon Choir welcomes young singers with open arms—no auditions necessary. Students need only bring a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and a love of music.
Rehearsals will take place on Tuesdays from 3:30–4:45 p.m. in the Theater, Building #2 on the NCSA campus (13032 Bitney Springs Rd, Nevada City, CA). The program runs through December 18, 2025.
Horizon Choir is led by dynamic conductor and celebrated music educator Ariel May, whose distinguished career includes performances at Carnegie Hall and collaborations with Pacific Symphony and the original Star Wars orchestra. With deep roots in both classical and contemporary music, Ariel brings unmatched energy and experience to the classroom and stage alike.
A Welcoming, Inclusive Music Program
At its core, Horizon Choir is about community, creativity, and connection. Students will experience the joy of singing together in a supportive and respectful environment that prioritizes teamwork and personal growth.
“Choir is a team – everything we do, we do together,” says director Ariel May. “This program is about more than just music; it’s about building confidence, cultivating empathy, and discovering joy through shared artistic expression.”
