NEVADA CITY, Calif. January 10, 2017 – A 911 call around 5:45 pm alerted firefighters to a vehicle down an embankment on Murphy Road near Tyler Foote on the San Juan Ridge. North San Juan Fire, Penn Valley and Nevada County Fire JOA Rescue 84 responded to the call.
The pickup truck was approximately 50 ft down the embankment by Shady Creek, with one person trapped inside. The car was caught in the water, partially submerged.
Access to the vehicle was difficult in very steep terrain, torrential rain and near zero visibility.
Road conditions further hampered access by out of the area rescue units. With firefighter and patient safety the absolute priority, additional units responded and a technical water rescue was set up.
After two hours, firefighters successfully transferred the single patient to dry land.
