February 23, 2026 at 4:56 PM Per Grass Valley Police just before 1:00 pm, a citizen walking in the wooded area between Sutton Way and Brunswick Road discovered an adult male possibly in need of medical attention. Upon Police arrival the male was confirmed to be deceased. The time and manner of death is not immediately known and public disclosure of the victims identity will be made after next of kin has been notified.

February 19, 2026 at 5:40 PM Peardale Chicago Park Fire update: Peardale – Chicago Park Fire, Ophir Hill Fire and Nevada County Animal Control were dispatched to a horse arena off of Colfax Hwy, which had partially collapsed with horses inside. Arriving crews found a 2000 square foot section of the arena collapsed from the snow with one horse critically injured but free and one horse still trapped. Firefighters worked for 45 minutes with shovels and power tools to clear snow and debris but were able to free the horse. The horse only received moderate injuries and is expected to recover.

February 18, 2026 at 12:39 PM An update on the 59 PG&E power outages affecting 2,851 customers in Nevada County. 784 customers in the Banner area are supposed to have utility power back by 8:00 pm tonight. The restoration estimate for 534 customers along Brunswick and Towle Rd is the morning of Feb. 20th. All other outages have no set estimate of restoration at this time, but Friday seems to be the target date. Note that additional crews have been assigned to the Sierra sector. Within the counties of El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, and Sierra, PG&E has approximately 175 boots on the ground working extended days to restore power. They are equipped with 24 snowcats and one helicopter.

February 17, 2026 at 11:08 PM The six initially reported skiers who survived the avalanche have been successfully rescued this evening by search and rescue teams with varying injuries. Due to extreme weather conditions, it took several hours for rescue personnel to safely reach the skiers and transport them to safety where they were medically evaluated by Truckee Fire. Two of the six skiers have been transported to a hospital for treatment. The search is ongoing, pending weather conditions. It should be noted it was initially believed there were 16 total persons, but that number has been updated to reflect 15 people who actually went on the trip.

At approximately 1:30 p.m., we received a report of a man possibly armed with a gun in the vicinity of Colfax Elementary. Our Colfax School Resource Officer was already on site when the call was received. Additional deputies responded immediately and secured both schools to ensure the safety of all students and staff.
Deputies conducted a thorough search of the schools and surrounding area, including the use of drones and CHPโs helicopter. No armed individual was located on either campus or in the immediate area.
Deputies will remain on scene during school pick-up to help ensure students and staff can leave safely.

February 3, 2026 at 6:18 PM Per Grass Valley PD: The Grass Valley Police Department has been alerted to a report of a firearm being discharged during a dispute in the 300 block of Pleasant St in Grass Valley. Due to proximity, Mount Saint Maryโs and Bell Hill schools were placed on lockdown. At this time, there is no known threat to the schools or anyone in the immediate area and the schools have been released from lockdown. There are no known injuries to any involved persons. Patrol Officers and Detectives are working with witness statements to establish the facts of the incident.
