We are happy to welcome Michael McAlister, a classically trained French horn player and conductor, as the new maestro of the Osher Lifelong Learning (OLLI) Orchestra, Nevada County’s Community Orchestra.
Originally from Northern California, Mike graduated from CSU Northridge, earned a Master’s degree in conducting at LSU Lafayette, Louisiana, and has played professionally in a wide range of venues. Some of these include: Auburn Symphony, Burbank Philharmonic, Baton Rouge Symphony, and Tar River Orchestra in North Carolina. He has also worked in Musical Theater as both a Conductor and Performer. After returning to California in 1997, he taught high school music. Recently retired, Mike has taken up the baton for OLLI orchestra in Grass Valley.
The fall free concert takes place Sunday November 24th, at 2:00 at Sierra College, Grass Valley, in the Multipurpose room. (N12) Parking is free.

- Symphony No. 35, W.A. Mozart, composer
- A Somerset Rhapsody, G. Holst, composer
- Pastorale d’été, A. Honegger composer
- March of the Kitchen Utensils, R. Vaughan Williams, Composer
OLLI Orchestra, Nevada County’s Community Orchestra, was formed in 1978. The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute—OLLI—granted funds to the orchestra in 2005, which stabilized funding, rehearsal and performance spaces and a modest grant for a conductor. Musicians volunteer their time to rehearse and perform for the community.
OLLI Orchestra’s concert takes place at 2 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room N12 at Sierra College, 250 Sierra College Dr., Grass Valley, on Sunday, November 24, 2024. Parking is free.
