February 7, 2018 – Glenn Jennings, former Nevada County Assistant District Attorney announced his candidacy for Nevada County District Attorney on Monday. Jennings is currently employed as a Serious and Violent Felony Prosecutor in Butte County.

Jennings made the decision to run for election after noting the current District Attorney, Cliff Newell, had not yet drawn a challenger. Jennings, currently one of four Serious and Violent Felony Prosecutors in Butte County, resigned from the position of Nevada County Assistant District Attorney (ADA) in 2015. The ADA is responsible for running the day-to-day operations of the District Attorney’s Office, handles public relations and is a liaison between law enforcement and the court.

In 2015, Jennings was instructed by Cliff Newell to terminate an investigation into alleged corruption involving the falsification of affidavits to obtain search warrants. The Union newspaper has written a number of articles about this case. Jennings was then ordered to sign a statement attesting that the investigation was completed and that no wrongdoing had been found, which was not true. Jennings was also ordered to approve and sign off on all future warrants brought forth by the person under investigation. Jennings refused to sign the statement or approve future warrants without the completion of a thorough investigation. He instead resigned his position.
