On Mar. 22, 2025, Peace Lutheran Church of Grass Valley will host a 2-hour seminar discussing the challenging relationship of faith and science. The authoritative duo of Dr. Sterling Bailey, physics professor at Sierra College, and retired Pastor David Mullen will present the scientific and religious thinking on the intersection of faith and science.
This Saturday morning presentation from 10a.m. to noon will first cover scientific opinions: what are they and how are they used for observations, predictions and theories using examples from the developmental ages of the universe, earth and the human species. Christian faith concepts will follow, exploring why there is concern about possible conflicts between the two realms.
Questions, doubts, and observations will be encouraged and used in discussion groups and then addressed by Bailey and Mullen and the audience as a whole. It will be a time for attendees to express their spiritual concerns in a safe and structured environment, to explore doubts and questions, hear others’ thoughts, and perhaps find some meaningful resolution and gain ample ideas to take home and ponder.
The forum is free and sponsored by the Contemporary Issues Seminar Group at Peace Lutheran Church and will be held in the Peace Lutheran Fellowship Center located at 828 W. Main Street in Grass Valley. Refreshments will be served. Those who attended other Contemporary Issues seminars at Peace, such as the James Webb Telescope presentation, know it promises to be an enlightening and stimulating morning.
