PENN VALLEY, Calif. July 19, 2017 – On July 18, at approximately 0820 hours, Nevada County Sheriff’s Office Regional Dispatch Center received a call for service from Cal-Fire reporting a possible shooting in the 11000 block of Sierra Circle in Penn Valley California.

On duty deputies along with detectives from the Narcotic Task Force responded to the area. Arriving deputies did not get an answer at the door so entry was made to check the welfare of the occupants.

Inside of the residence they located a female deceased in the master bedroom. The decedent was identified as 67yo Sandra Sue Lebarron of Penn Valley. Deputies contacted a male subject inside of the residence identified as 82yo Robert Lloyd Steuber also of Penn Valley.

Due to the suspicious circumstances at the scene, the scene was secured and members of the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office Major Crime Unit and Investigators from the District Attorney’s Office were requested to respond to the scene. A search warrant was subsequently obtained and the scene was processed utilizing members from the California Department of Justice.

Based on evidence collected at the scene, and statements made from Mr. Steuber regarding the incident, Mr. Steuber was taken into custody and booked into the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility on charges of 187PC (Murder).

The immediate cause of death is not being released at this time, pending an autopsy scheduled to take place later in the week.
