AUBURN, Calif. September 17, 2018 – In preparation for the Nov. 6 general election, the Placer County Elections Office has increased stipends for poll workers and is getting set to distribute voter information guides and vote-by-mail ballots.

Voter information guides will be mailed at the end of September to registered voters in Placer County. The guide includes details about candidates, measures and designated polling place locations.

Vote-by-mail ballots will begin mailing on Oct. 8. Vote-by-mail ballot request forms can be found on the back of the voter information guide, downloaded from the Elections Office website at www.placerelections.com or requested over the phone by calling 530-886-5650 or 800-824-8683.

Permanent vote-by-mail voters will automatically receive a ballot in the mail.

Looking to recruit more than 1,300 poll workers, the Elections Office is now accepting applications for all positions for the Nov. 6 general election, which now includes a stipend increase of up to $40.

Poll worker duties include opening and closing polling sites, verifying voter names on election rosters and issuing and collecting ballots. Pay ranges from $100 to $160. Volunteers earn an additional $20 for attending poll worker training, required for certain positions.

Poll workers must be at least 18 years old (unless participating in the student poll worker program), be registered to vote in California or a permanent legal resident of the United States, provide their own transportation and be able to work from 6 a.m. to around 9 p.m. on the day of the election.
