October 25, 2018 – CAL FIRE/Placer County Fire is implementing a live fire operation on the Mt. Howell Fire Lookout property in Placer County near Colfax.
Weather conditions permitting, the burn will begin today, Thursday October 25 at 09:00 am.
This burn will help reduce the fuel load while converting up to nine acres of underbrush to native vegetation around the fire lookout. The prescribed burn will also offer training to area firefighters.
The burn will be ignited starting around 9:00 a.m. and be completed by 3:00 p.m. Smoke will be visible in the Colfax area and surrounding communities.
Resources will remain at scene until all fire is extinguished and continue to check the burn for several days following the project’s completion.
