NEVADA CITY, Calif. June 4, 2018 – “Ready for High Fire Season?” a town hall organized by YubaNet, sponsored by the Nevada Theatre, will take place on Monday, June 11th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

Local, state and federal firefighters, Nevada County OES and Sheriff’s personnel will give us an update on their preparations. They will recap fires they fought so far and the causes of these incidents – think mowers, burn piles and camp fires. County staff will provide an update on notification systems available to residents and explain the new notification categories.

We’ll get an overview of what homeowners should be doing now, how to do it safely and what NOT to do at this time.

Outdoor enthusiasts will be reminded of campfire safety, off-road dangers and how to be able to get help in an emergency.

How to be safe while enjoying the local rivers and lakes, being aware of restrictions and what to do if a fire starts will be part of the discussion.

Getting ready for high fire season involves preparing yourself, your family and pets, your home and vehicles for a possible major incident – think evacuations, power outages, road closures. The professionals will share their best practices and talk about steps to take now and lessen the inevitable panic setting in during a fire.

Bring your questions, your concerns and pick up some of the brochures and materials made available.

Thanks to our friends at KVMR FM 89.5 this town hall will be available as a live broadcast.
