July 11, 2017 – Yesterday at approximately 1:00 pm two males, 11 and 14 years old, were on Stampede Reservoir in a canoe when the winds picked up and capsized their canoe. Neither boy was wearing a life vest. The 14-year-old boy was safely retrieved from the water but the 11-year-old was not seen again after briefly re-surfacing immediately following the capsizing.
A 9-1-1 call was received by a law enforcement agency which initiated response from multiple agencies to search the lake surface and shoreline.
Recovery efforts will resume this morning with the assistance of dive teams.
Public access to Stampede Reservoir will be prohibited until the recovery is made.
