Red Flag Warning: Critical Fire Weather Conditions Tues-Wed for higher elevations

September 10, 2018 – Cooler temperatures, along with locally breezy to gusty winds expected across interior NorCal this week as a low pressure system deepens along the West Coast. Gusty winds over the Sierra will increase the potential for fire starts and spread Tuesday into Wednesday. Temperatures will be 5 to 15 degrees below normal this week, followed by slightly warmer temperatures this weekend. Dry weather is expected, although a few mountain showers could develop over the northwestern portions of Shasta Co on Wednesday.

      • Red Flag Warning currently in effect
      • Ridge-top west to southwest winds 20 to 30 mph, gusts up to 40 mph over the Sierra, and relative humidity 10 to 20% (locally lower)
      • Shasta Co west to southwest wind gusts 15 to 30 mph Tuesday afternoon; North wind gusts to 20 mph Tuesday night
    • Areas of smoke and haze, locally dense near area wildfires

    • Near to above normal highs today, then temperatures 5 to 15 degrees cooler than normal Tuesday-Friday
