Ricky Satomi joined UCCE Sutter-Yuba on March 15, 2022, as an Area Forestry and Natural Resources Advisor in the Western Sierra Region (Sutter, Yuba, Butte, Nevada, Placer counties). He specializes in forest management with a focus on new technologies and wood product utilization.

Satomi has previously served as an area forest advisor for UCCE working on forestry and youth education issues throughout Northern California. He completed his Master of Forestry degree from UC Berkeley in 2016 looking at cost efficiency of forest fuel mastication treatments. Prior to that, he was a field forester working on various inventory and timber management programs throughout California.

Satomi is currently getting acquainted with local forest landowners and land managers to identify major issues of concern. In the upcoming year, he hopes to be involved in research and outreach to offer appropriately themed workshops for forest and landowners professionals around general topic areas of Novel Forest Technologies, Workforce Development, Alternative Silvicultural Practices, and Reforestation Best Practices.
