The Senior Wood Program Needs Volunteers!

The Senior Firewood Program is a volunteer activity that has provided free firewood to low-income seniors and individuals with disabilities in the Grass Valley and Nevada City area since 1982. Join a group of dedicated volunteers that split, stack and deliver wood year round to those most in need. Volunteers must be 18 years or older and physically capable of bending, stooping and lifting, days times vary, typically 2 hour shifts. Wood splitting knowledge and skill highly desirable, Thursdays 8am – 12pm.

Be the Eyes and Ears of Our Community!

Become a police volunteer. The Grass Valley Police Department needs your help with various tasks for the department. Whether its car and foot patrol or traffic and crowd control for special events; act as “eyes and ears” to help keep our community safe. Must be 18 years old, possess valid driver’s license, have no felony convictions, no warrants, and be ready to serve our community. Volunteers must complete a department background investigation. 4 hour shifts at various times of day; minimum of 16 hours per month.

CalFresh Advocate at Interfaith Food Ministries

Interfaith Food Ministries (IFM) is looking for a volunteer to serve as a CalFresh Advocate. After attending a 2 hour training to gain knowledge of the CalFresh program, the Advocate would help IFM clients to assess their eligibility, assist in enrollment, and help clients enter their information into the C4Yourself program. The volunteer would provide CalFresh materials to clients as needed, keep the materials organized. 2 shifts a month, 9:30am -1:00pm. Stand and walk for long periods of time, must be computer literate.

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Counselor

The AARP Foundation is recruiting for individuals interested in volunteering as a tax-aide counselor. Counselors, under the direction of the Local Coordinator and the Shift Coordinator, provide tax assistance and preparation to taxpayers. Typically Counselors are required to volunteer at least an average of four hours a week during the tax season, usually from February 1 to April 15, plus 16-36 or more hours of training in December or January.  For a comprehensive description of the AARP Tax-Aide Counselor duties and the needed qualifications, please contact Sara Morrison, RSVP Program Manager, at 530.271.0255.
