June 9, 2020 – The Nevada County Community Library is working with the California Center for the Book and Poets & Writers to bring two free virtual writer’s workshops to Nevada County in June.

The Nevada County Community Library is hosting poet Susan Wooldridge author of poemcrazy: freeing your life with words on Friday, June 12th from 4:00 to 6:00 pm for a poetry writing workshop thorough the Rural Libraries Tour. This workshop is FREE and will take place online via Zoom. Join us at a workshop that will make you feel excited about language and self-expression in both poetry and prose. First we’ll gather (and steal) words from a scattering of books and create a group word pool. Through play, using word tickets and dictionary pages as well as our own gathering of words, we will delve into what soul says, heart says, mind says, water says, our town says as we write about who we are, where we come from and where we’re going Along the way we will explore imagery, close observation, metaphor and “dream sense,” immersed in what poet Anne Waldman calls “goofy profundity.” Throughout the workshop, Susan will share her journals and talk about her her own writing process. We will welcome both laughter and tears. Sharing work is always optional.
Nevada County Community Library, California Center for the Book and Berkeley-based StoryCenter invite you to join a special online story sharing and writing workshop for our community on Monday, June 23rd from 5:00 to 6:30 pm. During these times, we want to offer people a chance to do some creative writing (a short, 1st-person story) and gather and listen to each other’s stories. The program will have you respond to a writing prompt and go through a simple group feedback process led by one of StoryCenter’s facilitators with years of experience in creating safe and supportive spaces for helping people share stories, in person as well as online.
These events are supported by the California Center for the Book and Poets & Writers, Inc.
